Registration is now open for the Central South Dakota Water Festival

Fourth graders in Central South Dakota are invited to participate in the Water Festival, a hands-on learning event about water.  We give our water festival a South Dakota focus to help you address multiple standards with this event.

At the Water Festival, students might visit with a homesteader woman, map their way through the water cycle, learn about South Dakota fish or identify tracks found in nearby grasslands.

New This Year: Downloadable Puppet Show
One of our sessions is a puppet show featuring wetlands creatures.  We have developed a second show, using the same characters, that you can download and use in your classroom. The second show has six speaking roles plus "audience participation" so the entire class can participate.

This activity can be used to meet the following 4th Grade standards:
4.R.1
4.R.2
4.R.3
4.LVS.1

If you would like a set of paper sack puppets shown at left (limit one per school) please indicate on your registration form.

The puppets can be used as part of this skit: Wetlands Puppet Show Script

Would you like to bring the Water Festival to your community?

The Water Festival is a field day of hands-on activities teaching 4th/5th graders about all aspects of water.  The take-home message is water is a valuable resource and we need to act responsibly to keep it clean and accessible.

If you are interested in bringing a Water Festival to your community, please contact Anne Lewis at 605-224-8295.
