Bring hands-on science exhibits to your community!
The SD Discovery Center and the
South Dakota State Library can help you bring hands-on science exhibits to your community. These exhibitions are made to travel and can be assembled in one day by a group of volunteers. We will give you ideas and resources for all sorts of neat programs to accompany your exhibits. Schools, libraries, community centers are all great places for a display.

Dinostories
In the form of vividly painted banners, life-size wooden head chairs, and much more, dinosaurs will rise from extinction. Dinostories takes a fresh new look at an ancient age. Students can crawl into a life-size model of a dino nest, unearth an ancient fossil, test their dino knowledge in a name game, and assemble skeletons of these wonderful terrible lizards.

Light & Color
In a whirling kaleidoscope of color, light and scientific discovery, Light & Color will dazzle your community. Visitor view holograms, split light into a rainbow of colors, and view their reflections from some rather odd angles. There are nineteen fascinating exhibits in all, covering topics from light refraction to fluorescence to color blindness. This exhibit is compact but packs a lot of science punch!

Animals as Architects
Animals are amazing architects. They burrow, weave, shape and sculpt. They create comfortable, secure homes out of resources they find in nature. Students are introduced to these skilled craftsmen who work without blueprints, tape measures, or T-squares. Activities include hunting for hidden moles and gophers, building a bird nest, make and take spider web rubbings, match animals to their homes, and view small-scale structures through a microscope. We even include a life-size termite nest model.
