all Pierre and Ft. Pierre Scouts) Limit: 75 To

FAQ:
How long is the Scout Overnight? Check in begins
at 6 PM on Friday evening and the Overnight continues until
8:30 am on Saturday morning. Please be prompt with both drop
off and pick-up.
What activities will my daughter be
participating in? Several interactive science programs
will be conducted through-out the evening by the Discovery
Center staff including a Greek and Roman constellation show
(be among the first to enjoy the new Digitalis Star
machine!), chemistry activities (make ice scream, lip balm
and cola) and an electrifying electricity program. The girls
will take home badges for each activity.
How will
supervision be handled? The Discovery Center requires a
ratio of 1 adult for every 6 girls. All activities will be
provided by the Discovery Center staff but troop leaders and
parents will need to plan on staying overnight to provide
supervision.
How do I pay and register for the Overnight? Call the SD Discovery Center at 224-8295 to register.
Payment options: 1. Pay the night of the event (or send a
check with your daughter). 2. You may stop in at your
convenience. 3. You may call the Discovery Center at
224-8295 and pay with a credit card.
Will I need to complete a release form for my daughter? Yes. These
forms can be completed upon registration/payment.
Will I need to send food and drink with my daughter? No, the
girls will have pizza for dinner shortly after they arrive.
All snacks and drinks will be supplied as well as breakfast
in the morning. If your daughter has food allergies, please
contact Sue Douglas at
suedouglas@sd-discovery.com prior to
the overnight.
Where in the Discovery Center will my
daughter sleep? The girls will be separated by troops and
be assigned specific areas in the exhibit hall to sleep.
What will my daughter need to bring? Attendees will need
a sleeping bag, pillow, toiletries and, a change of clothes.
PJ pants (not shorts) are suggested as it may be chilly at
night. Slippers or socks are also suggested. Girls may bring
a flash light. Please leave electronics at home.
Can
Discovery Center memberships be used to attend the
Overnight? No, museum memberships cannot be used for any
Overnights.

Fun Science Activities to Do at Home!!
Have some ooey-gooey science fun
with these homemade "science" substances.
Bubble Formula
For general blowing and popping fun:
Step 1:Into a mixing bucket add an
entire gallon of water.
Step 2:
Stirring SLOWLY so as not to make lather, add in 12 oz. of Dawn Original Scent (or 9 oz. of Ultra Dish detergent if necessary.
Non-ultra is recommended).
Step 3:
Stir in 3 Tablespoons (1 oz) of Glycerin (6 tablespoons if using
Ultra detergent). Glycerin is available at most pharmacies.
Oobleck
For fun with non-Newtonian solids
Step 1: Add 2 parts cornstarch
to 1 part water..
Step 2: You will not be able to mix this
quickly. SLOWLY stir.
Step 3: Experiment! What happens when you hit the mixture? Can you roll it? Freeze it?
Kids Helping Kids
provides opportunities for the youth of the Pierre/Ft.
Pierre area to engage in healthy and safe out of school
activities.

Scholarships:
Kids Helping Kids
will provide scholarships of up to $50 per youth per year so
that kids can participate in after school or extra
curricular activities. Scholarships are mailed
directly to the sponsoring organization or vendor.
Available on a first come, first served basis.

Activities:
Kids Helping Kids, in
cooperation with the SD Discovery Center, organizes summer
camps.
Board members: Are you a kid
that wants to help other kids in your community? You are
invited to serve on the board of Kids Helping Kids. You
will help other kids in your community and learn important
lessons about how to be a community leader. Please call
Kristie at 224-8295 to find out the next meeting. (Adults,
we could use your help too!)
Kids Helping Kids is an outreach of the
SD Discovery Center, Capital Area Counseling Center (Youth
Assessment and Assistance Program) and the Healthy
Communities/Healthy Youth Committee, with funding from the
Turner Foundation.
